First Level: A.S.E. Scholarship Award
Award:
$1,000 scholarship, elegant desktop engraved plaque, and certificate
Purpose:
Competitive scholarship for students in high school in Brunswick, New Hanover or Pender County or
students at UNCW, Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) or Brunswick Community College (BCC) who
are seeking an educational degree at UNCW, CFCC, or BCC entering into a program whose career path
will include focusing on environmental stewardship through protection, conservation, improvement, and
awareness of natural resources, used to offset educational expenses (non-tuition linked).
Who is Eligible?
o High school students in Brunswick, New Hanover or Pender County, who are seeking a higher
educational degree at UNCW, Cape Fear Community College (CFCC), or Brunswick Community
College (BCC).
o Currently enrolled students at UNCW, CFCC or BCC whose course tract is in environmental studies.
(Geography, GIS, Environmental Planning, Sustainability, Environmental Education etc…)
o Isaac Bear Early College High students are eligible if their course tract is in environmental studies.
o College transfer students from CFCC or BCC are also eligible if accepted into UNCW.
o UNCW students accepted into a graduate program related to environmental studies at UNCW.

Second Level: Capstone Award
Award:
$2000 award issued every other year and only offered upon recommendation of the SDC Scholarship
Award Selection Committee
Purpose:
As an incentive to remain involved with the SDC, ASE Award recipients, will become eligible for the
$2,000 “Capstone Award”, if the recipient:
(1) Remains actively engaged with the SDC mission through community service outreach and active
with the Stewardship Development Coalition, participating in meetings and events, and/or
(2) Maintains active with an organization(s) focusing on environmental stewardship, sustainability,
resource conservation, etc., and/or
(3) Represents the community in a positive and upright manner through stewardship and environmental activism.

Impact

The mission of the Lower Cape Fear Stewardship Development Coalition is to encourage and recognize outstanding development that protects, conserves, improves, and provides awareness of our natural resources in the Lower Cape Fear region.

History
Since 2005, the Lower Cape Fear Stewardship Development Coalition has annually recognized development projects that demonstrate outstanding environmental stewardship through the protection, conservation, improvement, and awareness of our natural resources. This regional awards and education program also honors development professionals who go the extra mile and take the time to plan, design, and build creatively in an environmentally responsible manner. The Coalition is a 501©(3) nonprofit, with a governing council consisting of county and state agencies, businesses, and administrative programs. The Coalition was modeled after a successful program in South Carolina.
