Background
About the Ogden Baptist Church Music Scholarship/ Internship Program

Founded in the summer of 2014, CFCC Alumnus and Staff Accompanist, Mr. Byron Marshall, cultivated the idea to establish a music scholarship for the Music degree program at CFCC. After a few months of research and communication with various resources, it was decided that Ogden Baptist Church, a local Wilmington area church where Mr. Marshall actively is the Minister of Music & Music Academy Artistic Director, would agree to co-found along with Byron Marshall. A meeting was held at Ogden Baptist Church during a regularly scheduled quarterly church business meeting in the spring of 2014 where Mr. Marshall presented the idea and details of the music scholarship and it was unanimously approved to move forward with its establishment.

Since its inception in the summer of 2014, the annual music scholarship concert, hosted at Ogden Baptist Church, has been the sole event that generates 100% of the funds awarded to the music students at Cape Fear Community College enrolled in the Associate of Fine Arts in Music & Music Education degree program. Each semester, eligible candidates apply and participate in a music audition during an official CFCC Music Recital event, where candidates are adjudicated by CFCC Music Faculty, for final recommendation of a scholarship award.

Ogden Baptist Church has graciously supported and extended its own Music Academy for outreach and internship opportunities in addition to the scholarships financial award to also provide further opportunities to scholarship recipients for growth and development their music studies with additional performance and independent study opportunity.
