This scholarship in is memory of Tom Kievit, 1947—2018
Tom was a “self made man” and with the help of his devoted wife, Kyle, started QRP, an aerospace engineering company. QRP became one of the key players for innovative product design in the aerospace industry. Tom was so many things to so many people. He was a husband, a father, a friend, a boss and an industry leader; he did all of this with a warm heart and a compassion for others, leading by example daily. Tom would bet on people and truly loved the underdog story. This was Tom’s story, building a company and competing against industry giants all while maintaining a family life and guiding his children to be ambitious in life. He had a deep respect for all those who worked hard and aimed high. Tom was an avid car enthusiast, a great competitor and an exceptional sportsman. His passion for cars lead him to race in the Sports Car Club of America series from 1970 to 1973, while recently he enjoyed competing in the Porsche Cayman series and was able to share these fun and exciting moments with his son Griffin, loving family and friends. Tom’s passions for racecar driving, business, pets, travel, engineering and sport resulted in many friends from all walks of life and different parts of the world.
